Houston Chronicle Realtor of the Week – Victor Boyd

Realtor of the Week: Realtor uses world experience when working with clients

Bernstein Realty Realtor Victor Boyd, a Memorial High School graduate, knows his neighborhoods intricately after growing up in the Memorial area.

Boyd, who is inspired by the “mature trees and forest feel” of Memorial Drive, said the area will always be home to him even after leaving for the Colorado School of Mines to study geophysical engineering and traveling the world with a long career in the oil exploration business.

Boyd, who resides in Cinco Ranch, returned to the area in 2016 and began his second career in real estate in 2017.

His focus area, mostly west of Houston, includes Braeswood and Bellaire through the Memorial area as well as Walnut Bend, the Energy Corridor and as far as Katy.

It is a great time to buy a home, but know inventory is “tight,” he said.

“Prices are rising in most parts of Houston. Overall, prices are not much higher than they were in 2015, so with interest rates still low, it’s still a good time to purchase a home,” he said.

Changing careers to real estate was a big decision Boyd said. His skills learned in the oil exploration industry has transferred well into his new career. After assisting his mother sell her home, he was intrigued by the prospect of working in the field.

“As much as I loved international work in the oil business, it was time to settle down here in Houston. I thought that my skills of negotiating, contract administration, and knowledge of the area would help me be successful in this new endeavor. I have been working as a Realtor for four years now,” said Boyd, who has an economics degree from the University of Houston.

To date, Boyd has continued to thrive as a Realtor. He was recently awarded the Shining Star at Bernstein Realty.

Boyd’s worldly experiences including working in areas in the former USSR, Mexico, South America, West Africa, Northern Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Canadian and US Arctic as well as being fluent in Spanish and conversant in Portuguese are invaluable when working with clients.

“My career as a geophysicist involved a lot of number crunching and data analysis,” Boyd said. “I use these skills in analyzing price trends and neighborhood histories. Working in the international oil business required long hours and varied negotiation and communication skills. These traits have proved beneficial working in Houston where so many home buyers and sellers are from all over the world.”
