SG Designs has made a name for itself flipping multimillion-dollar homes in some of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the Bayou City.
The Houston-based luxury remodeler — headed by designers Stacy Lewis Graubart and Brooke Douglas Graubart — gave the Houston Business Journal a tour inside its latest high-end home flip, at 817 Friar Tuck Road in close-in Memorial.
SG Designs bought a one-story, 4,000-square-foot ranch home on three-quarters of an acre in 2014. The designers tore down the aging house and spent one-and-a-half years meticulously building a new home on the site. The result is a Country French-style home that spans 7,026 square feet in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Houston.
“I’m always looking for the ugliest house in the best locations,” Stacy Lewis Graubart said. “We can change anything, but we can’t change the location.”
The five-bedroom, six-full-bathroom and two-half-bathroom home features custom steel doors and windows throughout, floor-to-ceiling marble bathrooms and a professional kitchen with high-end appliances. Although the home features a clean, modern look, SG Designs repurposed antique furniture pieces into a bar and a bathroom vanity to give the home a unique character.
“It’s all in the details,” said Brooke Douglas Graubart.
SG Designs has flipped six homes in Houston and remodeled homes across the country during its 20 years. Stacy Lewis Graubart, who learned the business from her interior designer mother, said it’s often easier and less expensive to tear down and rebuild a home, but she often tries to save as much of the previous home as possible. In the case of 817 Friar Tuck Road, SG Designs built the new home on the same foundation and footprint as the old home, she said.
“Every home as a story to tell,” Stacy Lewis Graubart said.
SG Designs has listed its latest home project with Susan McCauley with Bernstein Realty. The home is listed on HAR.com for $3.75 million.
