Amy Bernstein founded Bernstein Realty in Memorial in January 1985, not long after graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in elementary education.
She realized the field wasn’t a good fit once she started student teaching, and discovered her true passion while interning for a real estate company in Houston. “I absolutely loved it and knew that was the field I wanted to go into,” she said. Even now, as her business approaches its 30th anniversary, Bernstein remains just as enthusiastic. “It’s truly my passion,” she said. “I love satisfying buyers and sellers, and helping them achieve their goals. It (is) extremely satisfying every day to know that you play a major part in the decisions for buyers and sellers in what is often the most important and largest investment they ever make.”
When she first opened her company, Bernstein decided to specialize in corporate relocation, fulfilling the needs of employees moving to the Houston area. “I saw it as a niche in the marketplace that needed to be filled and was excited to be able to have a niche that was in a high level of demand at that point in time and continues to be,” she said. The business expanded steadily since then.
Bernstein’s position as owner of the business makes her career twice as enjoyable. “I’m very blessed that I’m able to wear both hats,” she said. “From the ownership aspect, there is such joy in seeing the team develop and grow, and work together in achieving what I consider to be absolute professionalism and customer service like no other.”
While elementary education wasn’t the right fit for her, Bernstein has found opportunities to educate through mentoring and guiding new associates. “It is very gratifying and rewarding to see all these agents develop and get the same passion that you have, not only for the business, but for their customers and clients as well,” she said. “That’s part of that schoolteacher desire in me.”
At the same time, she appreciates her seasoned agents who have helped build the business, as well as her dedicated support staff.
